| Scratch the surface of just about any
author, reporter, columnist, poet, essayist and you'll find someone who
questions his abilities just like the rest of the world. He can
list far more failings and rejections than accomplishments Truth
be told, he/she wonders if or when inspiration will come again or
if their work will be accepted.
The phenomenon which is so often a secret hallmark of CEOs in the business world has been called 'the imposter syndrome'. In other words, a fear that some day they'll be 'found out' and the truth will be revealed that they really don't know what they're doing. Writers have the same issue. This group is for you. If you can check your defenses at the door and join a group of kindred spirits, then you are a candidate for The Burley Point Writers' Group for the Professional. Meetings will be held from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.. Lunch and some materials will be provided. Most sessions will include a speaker/facilitator who will be invited to meet the needs of the members of the group. These will be top-notch professionals who not only will assist you in the group meeting, but could provide important networking opportunities for you in the future. Count on meeting a literary agent, editors and publishers who understand the business aspects of becoming successful as well as wonderful writers The power of the group is in the individuals who make up the whole. Members are selected solely on the contribution they can make by being willing to give and receive constructive feedback in a caring and supportive manner. There will be a number of opportunities to learn tips and techniques and ways to work through the obstacles that get in the way of achieving your long-term goals. You can count on your group to be respectful and challenging. Location: 1888 Burley Road., Annapolis, Maryland Directions: From Annapolis, take Route 50, exiting at St. Margarets Road (before the Bay Bridge). Left on Pleasant Plains Road (appx. 1.5 miles) Right on Cherry. Right on Burley. Follow Burley to the end of the point and look for a tall, contemporary home with a red door. Watch out for ducks. They're rather laid back when it comes to traffic.

| What to Expect | |
| The Burley Point Writers' Group for the
professional will consist of experienced, committed writers who will
contribute their own experience and perspective to the group. The
opportunity to have work critiqued is available to participants by
participants. The maximum size of a group is 14.
Speakers will be chosen based on the needs and interests of the group. Authors, copy editors, literary agents, publishers, editors and others who can assist writers in the business aspects of the field. Oh, yes, and you can expect to have fun. |
